You are right, Salwa, it's not cheer worthy at all. It's truly sad that this is what has "meaning" to a certain segment of society. It feels artificial and inauthentic. There are so many people struggling just to get through each day and we waste billions of dollars on feeding the egos of the rich?

Oh boy, did I love this. I'm not jealous either, although I spent a bit of time thinking of who I would have shared that money with to make lives better. But that's my issue, not theirs.

There's a scripture in the Bible somewhere that reads, "For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven". I'm feeling that more and more as I get tired of everything here, the excessiveness of some and the yearning to help those who don't have what they need. And those that do have so much rubbing it in peoples' faces, acting like a trailblazer.

I always thought if I won the lottery I would go away so much to churches and orphanages and veterans. I don't need much and have no aspiration to move into a mansion or become a celebrity. My mansion is waiting for me where my son lives now. I don't want the trappings of this life. I want to help the world and I don't see this self congratulatory behavior as a way to get that done. But that's just me and I'm sorry I rolled on this for so long. My eyes are on a kingdom not made by hands. I'm just trying to get there.

To be honest, it’s a madness. The needlessly conspicuous display of wealth was…. Let’s be honest, rich people have always done rich people things and that’s fine. But to try and dress it up as some kind of progressive, profound thing? That’s just taking us for fools. And it makes me really cross.

Very true, Salwa. Sadly true. It’s actually pathetic that the media thinks this silly show of wealth and privilege is worth celebrating. Katy Perry said something like ‘you have never known love until you go into space.’ Well I would love them all to go back to space and stay there!

I’m right there with you. It didn’t feel right to me to celebrate this disconnect. We are experiencing so much fear & grief in our country & Ukraine. How could we participate in this trivial moment of clueless wealthy people spending so much money that could have gone where truly needed. Very sad!

This Fact the World leaves behind those who care, who want to help, but in the end most are just trying to get by. Living paycheck to paycheck to help their families, friends, neighbors ,and their kids. When will the world wakeup and realize people on this planet need help first?

@Salwa, I sincerely appreciate your articles it is packed with detailed information that is so important to all of us.

I completely agree with you.

That makes you wonder how the future will look like. There I thought I helped pave the road so that our Gen-Zs have a happier and care free future.

It seems that 50+ years of mine just has been washed away in one split second. Sad!

This describes exactly how I feel. When I can envision the planet being destroyed by billionaires, space travel- not trips- leaving the rest of us behind become my next mental image.

Salwa, this is a clear and insightful exploration of conspicuous consumption taken to the absolute limit

Society became damaged the very moment everyone sought freedom from the very being that created it. And it kept getting bad, getting ignored, traditionally uncultural and deteriorating especially when democracy came to play...

We don't ask the right questions, we don't do the right things, we don't engage in the right process, but funny enough we all believe that we are doing the right thing. How is that?

Perfect work Salwa. Just perfect.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend.

This really speaks volumes of how the aristocrats and elite have warped the social narrative to make the inept leaders of the world out to be heroes. It’s maddening.

I’ve had these same thoughts so many times, and you’ve elucidated it here so perfectly. Just one of these people could solve so many of the world’s ails, and yet instead they are lauded instead.

Makes me wonder: I’m the future, who will we put on our money?
